The exhibition Gifted invites artists to explore the theme of giving and the gift from different artistic perspectives. Especially during the Advent and Christmas season, the act of giving is often associated with material gifts. However, beyond the material level, the theme opens up diverse possibilities for reflecting on intangible values, symbolic gestures, and the social and cultural context of giving.
Artists are encouraged to question the meaning of gifts: What intentions lie behind a gift? What expectations are connected to it? Is a gift always a sign of generosity, or can it also express a form of obligation, dependency, or power? These questions provide numerous starting points for creative interpretations – whether in the form of installations, objects, painting, sculpture, or other media.
A particular focus may be placed on the exchange and relationship between giver and recipient. The gesture of giving is often an expression of connection and community, but it can also lead to misunderstandings or tensions. Artists can engage with these ambivalences and design their works as invitations to dialogue.
The social and economic context of giving also offers plenty of material for critical reflection. In an age of increasing consumerism, the question arises of what role gifts play in a commercialized society and how they shape our social relationships. Through their work, artists can offer alternative perspectives and explore new forms of giving beyond the material.
Last but not least, the theme “Gifted” invites reflection on one’s own artistic practice as a gift. Art itself can be seen as a gift to society – an offering that inspires people to see the world with new eyes, to question, and to feel. In this sense, the exhibition is intended as a space for exchange, reflection, and encounter during the pre-Christmas season.
The participation fee is 10 €. Artists from all disciplines are welcome to apply. The exhibited works may be sold during the exhibition period. In addition, there is the opportunity to take part in the ART TO GO project (online presentation and sales). The number of exhibition spaces is limited; early application is recommended. The presence of the artists during the Christmas market and participation in supervision during opening hours is mandatory.
